All families have secrets. Sometimes they are forced out into the open. Daughters of Khadija follows a group of Ottawa women – mothers, daughters, friends – as they navigate their daily lives, each clinging to their dreams while carrying the unwelcome weight of how others often unfairly view them. Set against a contemporary Canadian landscape marked by polarization and prejudice, this story is ultimately about finding the courage of finding one’s voice, and living inside one’s hope. This new play written by Laurel Smith is part of Burning Passions Theatre’s “Muslim Women Sharing Stories” project (in conjunction with the Ottawa Muslim Women’s Organization and funded in part by the Government of Canada.) This project is part of Burning Passions Theatre’s theatre in the community training program.
